I have been interested in stories about King Arthur since I was a child. My great grandmother came to the United States from Wales in 1906. King Arthur is a Welsh folk hero and legendary battle leader from the 6th century. Trying to connect with where my ancestors came from, I eagerly read every short story, book, poem or comic book that I could find about him.
Today, as a grown adult, I know that much of what I adore about the legend was created much later by Geoffrey of Monmouth, Sir Thomas Malory, and others. Knowing this doesn't diminish the passion I feel about the subject. Because there are so many different tales, I decided not to limit my artistic vision to one single narrative. Arthur is portrayed differently in the suits of Cups, Pentacles and Swords, while Merlin is the subject of the Wands suit.
I asked AI to cross-reference literature in the Arthurian genre, finding scenes where the folk narrative converged with standardized tarot imagery. When no specific scene could be matched, I used scenes from everyday life in that time period. I hope you will enjoy the imagery.
